Before heading out in a rental golf cart, check where your route will take you. A destination can look close on a map and still require a road that is outside the rental operating area. For an Isla Beach Rental cart, plan around approved island streets, follow posted signs, and review the rules with our team at pickup.
Start with the approved island operating area
Texas DMV guidance explains that cities may authorize golf carts on roads within their boundaries with speed limits of 35 mph or less. That does not mean every road with a lower speed limit is automatically available to every cart. Local restrictions, signs, the vehicle’s requirements, and the rental agreement all matter.
For your Isla Beach Rental booking, use only the island roads approved during your pickup walkthrough and comply with the rental policy. If a road is posted above 35 mph, do not use it. A navigation app’s suggested route is not permission to take a golf cart there.
Can you take the cart onto the beach?
No. Isla Beach Rental carts may not be driven on the beach or sand. A golf cart can be part of a beach outing by getting your group to a lawful parking location near an access point; the walk onto the beach is a separate part of the trip.
Never use a pedestrian beach-access path, dune area, or boardwalk as a shortcut for the cart. Park where vehicles are allowed, leave access clear, and take only the belongings you can carry comfortably. Check signs and any parking fees at the location before leaving the cart.
Can you cross the Queen Isabella Causeway?
No. Our rental carts must not be driven onto or across the Queen Isabella Causeway. This is an explicit Isla Beach Rental operating restriction, so a trip to Port Isabel or another mainland destination needs a different transportation plan.
If your day includes both island stops and a mainland outing, arrange the mainland portion separately. Do not follow a car-route app across the bridge or assume that a short crossing is an exception to the rental agreement.
Choose stops first, then confirm the route
Start with nearby destinations and check the roads between them before driving. Shops and restaurants around your accommodation can make a simpler outing than a distant attraction at the edge of the island. Ask our team to help you confirm a route when you collect the cart.
Do not assume every stretch of Padre Boulevard or a road continuing north remains within the permitted area. Watch for changes in posted speed limits and restrictions. If a sign, closure, or instruction differs from your planned route, stop safely and ask for guidance instead of improvising.
Parking and passenger habits that make the trip easier
Use spaces where parking is permitted and follow the property’s rules. Keep sidewalks, accessible spaces, driveways, and beach-access routes clear. A smaller vehicle does not create a parking exemption.
Give every occupant a designated seat and use the available seat belt. Stay within the cart’s stated capacity, keep belongings secured, and do not allow standing or lap riding. The driver should remain focused on traffic and pedestrians rather than taking photos or checking directions while moving.
Your checklist before leaving the store
Under Isla Beach Rental’s policy, the primary renter and each driver must be at least 18 and have a valid driver’s license. Complete the paperwork and use the pickup walkthrough to resolve route questions before you start.
- Confirm the approved operating area and your planned stops.
- Review the controls, lights, parking brake, and seat belts with the team.
- Save (956) 772-7076 and confirm the return time and location.
- Plan separate transportation for the mainland.
- Keep the cart off the beach and out of prohibited areas.
Check current guidance for your rental
This guide describes practical planning and our rental restrictions; it is not a complete list of traffic rules or a substitute for current signs and official instructions. The Texas DMV’s vehicle guidance and the City of South Padre Island’s published ordinances are useful official references. Read our Rental Policies before booking and ask us about anything unclear at pickup.
A little route planning helps you spend more of the day enjoying your stops. Compare the available carts and choose a rental duration that leaves enough time to drive within the permitted area and return without rushing.
